Funguy
(2021)
Funguy is a bouncy, whimsical 3D Platformer created by a team of 8 over the course of 9 weeks in Unreal Engine 4. Funguy's world is filled with many environments to explore- mushroom villages, swamps full of zombified shrooms, and glowing crystal caverns- all ready to be saved.
My Roles
Project Lead:
-
Directing Project to completion through the use of the Cerny method: creating a "Toy" character, player zoo, prototype, and final level.
-
Making sure core team members stayed cohesive in the aesthetic and theme- from shaders to core "mushroom" themed mechanics.
-
Recruited additional members- including Sound Designers and Concept Artists
Producer:
-
Organized meetings and led Agile workflow.
-
Created various presentations of working prototypes throughout project completion.
Game Design:
-
Designed multiple abilities: spore blast, mushy wall bounces, cap glide, glowing spore signals, water absorption, and more. These abilities were designed around the question of "what do mushrooms do?"
-
Designed enemies with different attack systems: moles popping out of the ground for players to dodge, termites for the player to spore blast, and Zombie Mushrooms for the player to glide and wall bounce away from.
-
Designed levels to directly guide the player and utilize mechanics progressively. I used narrative and ability locks to do so. A player could only enter areas if they had certain abilities- such as the mycelium burrow to enter the cave.
